The recently concluded Siamsin Seminar III held at Tedim was an eye opener.

This seminar hosted by the Zomi University students at Khuado Hall with resource persons like Pu Chin Sian Thang President Zomi National Congress, retired Professor Dr C Thang Za Tuan and Pu Zozam Cin Pau brought to light the hopes and aspirations of youths in general and university students in particular.

Although Pu Chin Sian Thang was not allowed to speak or even attend the seminar his presences alone woke up the sleepy town of Tedim.  Many of the Tedim towners did not attend the seminar for fear of Burmese Junta’s rebuke or worse.

When the students’ President Tg Zam Thuam asked permission for the ZNC President to attend from the Burmese Junta they threatened to stop the seminar altogether.  It seemed the Junta was scared for the leader to speak.  Lesson learned.

The Tedim speaking population are often accused of being too apolitical and not confronting the Burmese Junta enough by other Chins and rightly so.  Even though there are thousands of Tedim refugees hardly one or two ever spoke up against the Burmese Junta or even ever questioned their government.  The Tedim Chins are more concerned for their livelihood, business and education, than working for democracy. Though now things should change.  I have this feeling that Tedim town and its people have just been awoken.

The Tedim Chins should know the Junta is scared to see the Tedim town rebel against it.  The Tedim Chins should know when freedom of speech and expression is curtailed the Junta is never serious about its “road to Democracy” or their (s)election in 2010.

Wake up my brothers for the time has come for change.

Change we shall embrace with our all, and fight any and all resistance for change.
